As of September 2022, the average rent for a one bedroom unit in London is $1500, not including utilities. Individuals on a fixed income like Ontario Works receive $390 for rent and $343 for basic needs, bringing their total monthly income to $733, making housing inaccessible to many individuals.

Housing Stability Program

In the Housing Stability Program, London Cares has the capacity to support approximately 100 participants at any given time.

  • Since 2019, London Cares has supported approximately 50 individuals with graduating out of the program as they have stabilized in their housing and no longer require intensive case management.

  • In 2021, London Cares housed 27 individuals, and during that year, London Cares worked alongside 5 participants who gained employment and/or started volunteering in the community.

Outreach

  • London Cares Outreach teams had 7000 interactions with individuals in 2021, and currently in 2022 (April 1-August 31 2022), the teams have had 4385 interactions, which is a 68% increase.

  • London Cares is currently supporting upwards of 300 urban encampments each month, as shelters continue to be at capacity, and the available rental units in London continues to be very minimal - pushing individuals into the streets as they have nowhere else to go

Resting Spaces Program

Number of individuals supported each year and number of turn aways each year. Turn aways capture the number of times this program was at capacity, and London Cares was unable to support additional individuals with coming into the space to access service

London Cares operates a 10 bed Resting Space program which supported 849 unique individuals in 2021. London Cares consistently operates at 100% capacity - there is not a night where there is an empty bed.
